Succulence has evolved separately in many branches of the plant family tree, giving us a myriad of varieties in endless forms. But they all have one thing in common: fleshy leaves or stems that store water, to endure long periods of drought and intense heat and sun. Succulents add colorful geometric beauty to a garden while keeping its water needs low. They also make excellent low-maintenance container plants.
