The Big Mup Avocado
Muppy Gragg is proud to introduce to you the BIG MUP avocado. This amazing avocado was grown from grafts from a 75 year old 40' tall tree discovered by her father many years ago growing in an abandoned lot in East Palo Alto. Sadly, the original parent tree exists no more having been buldozed to make room for a new apartment complex. But the tree lives on in the form of cuttings from the original tree grafted onto seedling rootstocks thereby preserving this gorgeous and monstrous avocado strain.
BIG MUP can weigh in at an astounding 2 pounds which is equivilent to 4 hass type avocados. Flavor is rich and nutty and the skin is so thick it can be used as a ready to serve guacamole bowl to your utterly amazed supper guests. Our first generation of 5 gallon BIG MUP plants should be ready for sale Spring of 2021. And see the namesake of this plant below in action. This could be you if you eat enough BIG MUPS!

How I met BIG MUP for the first time having noticed huge avocados filling the canopy of an enormous tree thriving on total neglect in East Palo Alto. I banged on the door and asked the tenants if I could pick some fruit and that started a many year relationship of me climbing high above where no one else would go, and tossing avocados down onto a mattress that inhabited the otherwise lifeless backyard. I would always split the take with the tenants.
The tree towered over 40' tall by 40' wide, was never watered, never fertilized, never mulched yet produced thousands of cannon ball sized fruit each and every year. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Nope!
RIP BIG MUP But please know that a few of my grafts grew, albeit slowly, and you will live on through them, once your babies get big enough to make babies of their own.
